1. In the Redesign process, have "some" and "all" statements been removed from the job descriptions?

Yes, these statements are no longer incorporated in the job descriptions; the focus in the Redesign job descriptions is on core responsibilities.
2. Are the statements from the leveling guide placed in the job descriptions?

Yes, some of the statements from the levels guide have been incorporated into the job descriptions as elected by the agency representatives.
3. How was the mapping of the old job titles determined?

The determination was made based on previous data gathered during the Career Banding initiative, the current job descriptions and technical input from SPA and the agency validation experts.
4. When the new job descriptions are implemented, will the agencies be obligated to place employees in the description their old job title falls under?

No, agencies will make the final determination of position classifications within their agency for implementation. Agency HR representatives will have the responsibility of assigning employees based on their current responsibilities and which job description they most closely match.
5. When the new job descriptions are implemented, will agencies be allowed to create new jobs for their particular agency?

Agencies will have the ability to create and maintain agency specific position descriptions and utilize business titles to meet individual agency needs. The descriptors will be linked to the Standardized descriptors that are maintained on the statewide system.
6. How do you take into consideration the scope, responsibilities, and risk to the organization when developing the job descriptions?

The job evaluation process includes analysis of job responsibilities and scope as key components in determining/developing job levels.
7. Will agencies be able to make changes to jobs/create new jobs?

A business process will have to be developed to address the maintenance/upkeep of the system.
8. What is a "Leveling Guide"?

The leveling guide consists of a group of statements that define each job level (e.g. Level 0 - Entry/Training Level, Level 1 - Working/Full Proficiency Level, etc.). Click on the Leveling Guide link to view the criteria for each level.
9. What are the guidelines for Management levels?

The Management levels are determined by the scope of responsibility: Unit, Project, Region, Department, Statewide or Major Function.
10. Are the Manager 2 and Manager 1 levels intended to cover the former "A class" or "confidential" positions that report directly to the Commissioner?

The Manager 1 and 2 levels are not intended to cover the former "A class" or "confidential" positions that report directly to the Commissioner. Jobs on the SRE plan are not included in this portion of development (i.e., direct reports to the Commissioner or Confidential Secretaries). These jobs will be developed separately.
11. Explain the job coding system.
- The numbering system will allow the identification of specific jobs. For example:
- HRP011
- HR - Occupational Family - Human Resources
- P - Occupational level - Professional
- 01 - Job Description Title - Specialist
- 1 - Job Level - Full working proficiency
12. Will the old job codes be eliminated when the Redesign Project is implemented?
- The old job codes will continue to be used until January 1, 2010.
13. Will there still be numeric grades in the compensation design?
14. When will the new job system be implemented?
- The new job system will be implemented July 1, 2008.
15. How will the implementation of the new job system impact employees?
- Employees will see a change in their state classified job title and job description. They will not see a change in pay, pay grade or pay amount.
16 - Explain the job titling system.
- The job titles consist of no more than 30 characters, the first 2 characters represent functional level, the next 25 represent the job title, the last 2 indicate the job leveling.

What do the initials PS, TS and SS mean?
- PS - Professional Staff
- TS - Technical Staff
- SS- Support Staff
17 - What do the prefixes MG, MG1 and MG2 represent?
- Those codes represent the manager series. MG is for Manager, MG1 is for Mid Manager and MG2 is for General Manager.
18 - What do the initials in the parenthesis represent?
- These initials indicate the job level ET for Entry Level, WL for Working Level, AL for Advanced /Expert Level, and SP for Supervisor.
19 - What are entry qualifications?
- Entry qualifications are the legal minimum education and/or experience needed upon entry to a job.
20 - What are technical competencies?
- Technical competencies are the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful performance on the job. They are acquired through previous job related experience as well as can be developed with on the job training.
21 - What are career development criteria?
- Career development criteria are job related training, coursework and/or certifications achieved to promote professional growth in state government.
