Purpose
The purpose of the new job system is to update and streamline the state’s classification structure, reduce the number of duplicate and redundant jobs, and make job descriptions more consistent with industry standards.
In 2006, agency HR representatives and State Personnel Administration (SPA) Compensation consultants, met in inter-agency work groups to develop new job descriptions and to link the current job titles to the newly developed job descriptions. SPA held focus groups with agency designated subject matter experts to assist in developing the final three components: Entry Qualifications, Technical Competencies and Career Development Criteria.
Agency human resource professionals have reviewed the new job descriptions and they are now ready to be implemented.
Your new title will appear on your July 15 pay check. Your assigned job code and pay grade will not change.
You will see a change in your state classified job title and job description. You will not see a change in your pay. Agencies may continue to use "working" titles for business reasons if they so choose.
The state of Georgia is transitioning to a new statewide job classification system. The new job classification system uses general, broad job titles that represent functions of an occupational family and are not specific to individual positions. The state titles and descriptors will be used to compare jobs internally and to market price jobs outside of State government.
The new classification of state jobs allows for better alignment of the state structure with industry standards and best practices. Business Titles (specific agency job titles), can be used for internal business purposes (i.e. recruitment efforts and internal administration). Business Titles relate to the specific function of a position within the organizational structure of the agency and is linked to the official state job title.
