Review Criteria | Workforce Planning Law
Workforce planning is a systematic, proactive process, which aligns strategic planning, human capital, and budgeting to meet organizational goals and objectives through:
Forecasting mission critical talent needs;
Analyzing current workforce and talent supply; and
Developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to close gaps.
Workforce plans submitted by each agency are reviewed annually by the State Personnel Administration. Agency workforce goals, identified gaps, selected strategies, and targeted outcomes are analyzed for prevailing trends and common issues. The results of the analysis is put into a statewide report that is submitted to the governor's office.
State law specifies: (O.C.G.A. 45-20-1- section F) Each agency shall develop an annual workforce plan according to statewide criteria and guidelines and shall provide a report of such plan annually to the State Personnel Administration for incorporation into the statewide work force plan to be submitted to the Governor and the General Assembly.
As one of State Personnel Administration's HR Strategic Initiatives, Workforce Planning has been the focus of an interagency team charged with the task of streamlining and simplifying the State's Workforce Planning process. Read more about the teams recommendations on the HR Initiatives website.
ATTENTION: For those agencies who have not already submitted an "annual" workforce plan to SPA, the new deadline date is May 31, 2008.
(Agencies who submitted "annual" plans based on the September 28, 2007 deadline...will not need to resubmit or update their annual plan at this time.)
However, all agencies are expected to submit their consolidated strategic plans to the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget.
